Easy Chicken Gyros

About this Recipe

Our little family loves a good gyro. Perfect for a quick, healthy lunch or dinner, and you can add lots of different fillings/sauces to customize your gyro just how you like it!

This recipe is definitely not the “traditional” way to make a gyro–at all. However, it’s delicious and gives us our “fix” when we are craving one of our favorite Greek dishes. We hope you enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1-2 lb chicken
  • 1/4 cup, greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp, EVOO
  • 1tsp of each:
    • Garlic Powder
    • Onion Powder
    • Dill
    • Trader Joes Zatar Seasoning (optional but highly reccomend)
  • 1/2 tsp of each:
    • Paprika
    • Tumeric
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Pita or Naan bread (Pita is traditional, but we used naan for ours)
  • Your favorite gyro fillings

Our Tips:

  • We used chicken tenders in our recipe, but you could always switch it out with chicken thights or breasts.
  • Play with the different seasonings to see what you like.
  • Filling ideas:
    • Romaine Lettuce
    • Cucumber
    • Feta
    • Tomatoes
    • Avocado
    • Red Onion
    • Tzatziki
    • Bell Pepper
    • Banana Peppers

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

In a large bowl, add your chicken, EVOO and greek yogurt.

Mix well until chicken is evenly coated.

Step 2

Next, add the seasonings to the same bowl.

Mix well until chicken is evenly coated.

Let marinate for at least 15 minutes. We try to aim between 30 minutes to an hour.

Step 3

In a nonstick pan over medium/high heat, sear chicken on both sides. Cook until internal temp reaches 165.

 Step 4

Once chicken is cooked, cut into long, thin strips.

Heat your pita or naan bread on a pan until bread it warm and pliable.  

Step 5

Now it’s time to assemble your gyro!

Add your chicken and any additional fillings or sauces to your bread.

We used romaine lettuce, avocado, cucumber, tzatziki, and a delicious goat milk feta cheese!
